Ausgezeichnet wurde eine Publikation über die Behandlung und Therapie osteoporotischer Wirbelfrakturen der von Dr. Ullrich (rechts im Bild) geleiteten Arbeitsgruppe "Osteoporotische Frakturen". Der Titel des ausgezeichneten Artikels, publiziert im Global Spine Journal [1], lautet:

Clinical Evaluation of the Osteoporotic Fracture Treatment Score (OF-Score): Results of the Evaluation of the Osteoporotic Fracture Classification, Treatment Score and Therapy Recommendations (EOFTT) Study

Die Arbeit stellt die Forschungsergebnisse der multizentrischen EOFTT Studie „Evaluierung von OF Klassifikationen, Therapie-Score und Therapieempfehlung für osteoporotische Wirbelfrakturen“ vor. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine multizentrische Studie zur Evaluation von Behandlung und Therapie osteoporotischer Wirbelfrakturen. Dabei wurden Daten von mehr als 500 Patientinnen und Patienten aus insgesamt 17 deutschsprachigen Kliniken – unter ihnen das Bergmannstrost – ausgewertet. Auf Grundlage der Daten haben die beteiligten Medizinerinnen und Mediziner ein neues Einteilungssystem für Wirbelbrüche bei Osteoporose entwickelt und international etabliert. Darauf aufbauend wurden Therapie- und Behandlungsempfehlungen für Wirbelbrüche bei Osteoporose von einer Expertengruppe ausgesprochen – was aufgrund der deutschlandweit hohen Fallzahlen ein wichtiges Thema in der Frakturbehandlung ist.

Neben internationalen Publikationen [1-8] und einer Vielzahl an Tagungsbeiträgen wurde die Arbeit bereits 2022 international auf dem Global Spine Congress in Las Vegas (Global Spine Journal) und ebenfalls 2022 auf dem DWG Kongress in Berlin mit dem Georg-Schmorl-Preis ausgezeichnet (European Spine Journal). Beide Kongresse sind Organe der wichtigsten und größten internationalen Organisationen, welche evidenzbasierte Wirbelsäulenbehandlung etablieren. Die fachliche Reichweite und der Einfluss auf zukünftige Behandlungsstandards sind enorm.

Hintergrundinformationen
In Folge der demografischen Entwicklung in Deutschland ist der Anteil älterer Menschen an der Gesamtbevölkerung so groß wie noch nie. Dies führt dazu, dass das Gesundheitssystem in bisher nicht da gewesenem Ausmaß vor der Aufgabe steht, Wirbelsäulenverletzungen auch bei Patienten mit Osteoporose zu behandeln.  

Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie hat sich dieser Aufgabe gewidmet. Es wurde ein neues Einteilungssystem für die Wirbelbrüche bei Osteoporose entwickelt. Darauf aufbauend wurden Behandlungsempfehlungen für Wirbelbrüche bei Osteoporose von einer Experten-gruppe ausgesprochen.

Dr. Bernhard Ullrich ist Leiter des Zentrums für Wirbelsäulenchirurgie im BG Klinikum Bergmannstrost Halle und Oberarzt der Klinik für Unfall- und Wiederherstellungschirurgie. Er leitet die Arbeitsgruppe "Osteoporotische Frakturen", die bei der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie (DGOU) angesiedelt ist und ist Projektleiter der EOFFT-Studie. An der Studie sind weitere Medizinerinnen und Mediziner des Bergmannstrost beteiligt.
